Position Overview

Join a Bay Area legacy. Our client is a family-owned general contractor with over 93 years of excellence. Their culture speaks for itself: nearly 50% of their staff has been with them for over 10 years. We are looking for motivated talent eager to contribute to their continued success, and they are equally dedicated to investing in your professional development.

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented, proactive, and collaborative Project Engineer to join their project team. The Project Engineer serves as a critical technical support pillar for their construction staff, working under the direct supervision of a Project Manager. Your primary mission is to assist the Project Manager and Superintendent in ensuring the highest quality of work, maintaining client satisfaction, and driving project profitability from conception to completion.

Key Responsibilities

The Project Engineer is responsible for the overall technical and administrative success of the project, including:

  • Project Planning & Pre-Construction: Assist in developing project estimates, reviewing documents, performing quantity takeoffs, and coordinating subcontractor bid lists.

  • Document Control: Initialize and manage project document logs (RFIs, Drawings, Submittals), setup engineering file systems, and ensure all as-built drawings are accurately maintained and archived.

  • Procurement & Material Management: Collaborate with the team to identify long-lead items, develop procurement schedules, and work with the Superintendent to ensure materials and equipment are available before and during construction.

  • Field Coordination: Assist with jobsite mobilization, coordinate jobsite safety documentation, and organize progress photos of work in place.

  • Quality & Schedule Assurance: Monitor project quality with subcontractors and implement VB standards. Track progress schedules and coordinate with utility companies for service turn-ons and transfers.

  • Financial & Change Management: Assist in collecting pricing for change orders, support monthly subcontractor billings, and provide percentage-complete projections to the Project Manager.

Core Duties

  • Interpret subcontractor scopes of work and address field questions.

  • Examine detail drawings for architectural errors or omissions and coordinate corrections.

  • Create clear and concise RFIs that are easily understood by the Project Design team.

  • Manage project documentation on site for Superintendents, Subcontractors and Owner’s team

  • Develop a "Road Map to Completion" for inspections, testing sequences, and agency clearances.

  • Manage the full project closeout process, including punch lists, O&M manuals, warranties, and permit finalization.

Performance Standards & Qualifications

To be successful, the Project Engineer must meet the following standards:

  • Technical Proficiency: Ability to read and comprehend complex plans, specifications, and building codes/regulations.

  • Communication: Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to create and distribute accurate meeting minutes.

  • Independence: Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to accomplish tasks accurately without constant direct oversight.

  • Organization: Maintain project files in such an organized manner that a senior manager could step in and assume control at any time.

  • Software Skills: Proficiency in company-standard software programs.

  • Behavioral Excellence: Displays disciplined, solution-focused behavior and a strong commitment to teamwork.
